Enterprise MVNO: the billing logic standard enablement lacks

You already sell fibre, SD-WAN and managed services. Adding mobile makes every account converged, provided the billing can carry what enterprises ask for.

One enterprise account, many kinds of line

An enterprise customer is not a list of subscribers. It is one contract with cost centres under it, several kinds of line under those, and one invoice out of the bottom. Standard enablement platforms flatten that into subscribers, which is where sponsored usage, allocated accounts and M2M fleets stop being configurable.

One enterprise contract

  • Cost centres and groups

    • departmental budgets
    • spending limits
    • allocated bundles
    • approvals
  • Employee lines

    • sponsored split
    • personal top-up
    • roaming and premium rules
    • device policy
  • M2M and IoT lines

    • terminals and fleets
    • sensors and meters
    • private APN
    • bulk lifecycle

One invoice, one record

  • fixed
  • mobile
  • M2M
  • adjustments and credits
Sponsored billing means the company pays an agreed part of an employee's usage and the rest is billed to the individual, on the same account and the same invoice run.

Why an ICT provider adds mobile

01

Converged accounts

Fibre, wireless, SD-WAN and mobile on one contract, one invoice and one account team. That is the retention argument enterprise buyers understand.

02

Enterprise billing logic

Sponsored billing, where the company covers an agreed part of an employee's usage and the rest is billed to the individual. Cost centres, limits and approvals. Postpaid with adjustments and fixed-term contracts.

03

B2G and regulated customers

Public-sector and regulated accounts need departmental budgets, audit trails and in-country data. A Medium or Full model on your own BSS can meet those requirements; a reseller deal cannot.

04

M2M and IoT on the same platform

POS terminals, ATMs, fleet and courier lines, sensors: M2M SIMs with a private APN, pooled allowances and allocated reporting, billed with the rest of the account.

Why Avante for an enterprise launch

01

Beyond standard MVNE setups

Enterprise-specific billing logic and product structures for corporate and public-sector use. This is why Brilliantel chose its own BSS over an enabler's shelf.

02

Convergent billing

Fixed, mobile and M2M on one rating engine and one invoice. Prepaid, postpaid and hybrid in the same system.

03

One API for your stack

CRM, ERP, ticketing and the customer portal connect through the Avante API. The host operator's interfaces are our responsibility.

04

OPEX-based launch and managed operations

Launch under an OPEX model to reduce upfront capital, then run year one as a managed service with 24×7 support.

Which model for an ICT provider

Reseller / Light on an enabler

Fast entry, standard consumer-style plans, billing and data stay with the enabler. Sponsored billing, cost-centre limits and allocated reporting are usually not available.

Medium on your own BSS

Own catalogue, charging and billing with enterprise logic; subscriber data in your CRM; converged invoicing with your existing services. Four to six months after host and legal readiness; Full later if network autonomy justifies it.

Route to launch

  1. 01

    Discovery — 2 to 3 weeks

Target model, enterprise product list and opening offers, integration scoping across the existing service portfolio. Output: MVP scope, responsibility matrix, critical path.

  2. 02

Host and legal — the critical path

Host agreement, numbering, SIM supply, licence or registration, regulatory approvals. Avante drafts the technical annex and the interface requirements and supports the negotiation.

  3. 03

    BSS platform — 4 to 8 weeks

Platform deployment, catalogue and charging configured for the opening enterprise offers, a working test environment.

  4. 04

    Integrations — 6 to 12 weeks

Host operator interfaces, CRM and ERP, payment gateways, KYC and number portability. Runs partly in parallel with stage 3.

  5. 05

    Launch — 2 to 4 weeks

Pilot, then Friends & Family, then commercial start.

Hardware or hosting secured up front keeps infrastructure readiness off the critical path.

Launch process

Delivered: Brilliantel, South Africa

Brilliantel, a South African telecommunications and ICT provider that serves enterprise customers with fibre, wireless, SD-WAN, MPLS and satellite services, selected Avante for an MVNO launch centred on B2B and B2G, segments where standard MVNE models are often not sufficient. The platform supports enterprise-specific billing logic and product structures, including sponsored billing. The hardware platform was secured up front and the project is delivered under an OPEX-based model designed to reduce upfront capital requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What is sponsored billing?

A corporate customer covers an agreed part of an employee's mobile usage (a monthly allowance, specific services, or usage within limits) and the remainder is billed directly to the individual subscriber. This needs split billing at the product level, which is configured in the Avante catalogue rather than developed.

Can we bill mobile on the same invoice as fibre and managed services?

Yes. Avante Billing is convergent: mobile, fixed and M2M services on one account, one rating engine and one invoice, with cost centres and allocated reporting for enterprise accounts.

Do enterprise customers need a Full MVNO?

Usually not. Medium, meaning your own BSS with enterprise logic, covers sponsored billing, limits, private APN and allocated reporting. Full becomes relevant for public-sector customers that need identity data and records inside their perimeter, or when network autonomy is part of the proposition.

How do M2M and IoT lines fit?

As products in the same catalogue: M2M SIMs with private APN, pooled allowances, lifecycle controls and threshold-based spend limits, billed with the account. Multi-IMSI and sponsored roaming are available for devices that travel.

How fast can an ICT provider launch?

Medium: four to six months after the host agreement and legal framework are in place. Existing enterprise relationships and secured infrastructure shorten the commercial and readiness tracks.
